As many of you may have noticed, I took about a 6 week break from the blog. This meant taking a break from not only writing, but also promoting the blog on platforms such as instagram or facebook.
It may sound completely crazy…to take a break from something that’s a hobby, from something that could potentially make money for my family. But, I needed it. And I am so glad that I was able to take this break.
This all started over Christmas when my family was visiting San Francisco. The continually made comments how I was on my phone constantly, which is funny as I try to always be conscious and remind my family to be off their phones around Eli. They took pictures to show me just how much I was on the phone.
This hit me. If my family noticed, how much more was Eli, who always looks to me for my attention, noticing.
I thought about it a lot, and decided that I needed to take a break, and Lent gave me that perfect opportunity to not only focus more on my family and showing them I care, but also on God. Rather than staying on instagram for hours, maybe I could do something else.
I want to say it was difficult to take the break, but it honestly wasn’t. At first, it was tough to remind myself not to constantly check instagram, or think about taking pictures, but as time went on, I began to enjoy it. So much so, that it was hard to come back.
Not that I don’t love the blog, because I truly do! I enjoy writing and sharing our lives with you all. I enjoy the friendships I’ve made with other bloggers online and the community we have. But I also enjoyed my free-time and spending each second with my family.
We went through some struggles in the past 6 weeks (more on that later), and I am so thankful I was able to be fully present during those times.
All this to say, if you think you may need a break from something in your life, don’t wait until Lent rolls around in another year to do so. Take the break and take care of yourself and your family. You will be better off for doing so!
