When we were first pregnant with Eli, I could not wait to send out postcards with our announcement that we were expecting! I was beyond thrilled and wanted to share it with the world!!
Fast forward to Baby #2 and I procrastinated (which I’ve heard is pretty common). With Eli, we announced through postcard announcements as soon as I hit 12 weeks, and at 13 weeks, announced on Social Media. This time around, we waited…and waited…not necessarily for any particular reason, but just because it took me so long to actually take pictures and get some sort of announcement together!
We ended up having Eli hold a sign that said “Big Brother…” etc, and went out to a local park with trails to take it. We also included 3 white balloons, to signify Eli’s three other siblings, who are in heaven. It was important to me to honor those three babies, and have them as part of the announcement, as they will forever be a part of our family and our hearts.
Fast forward a few weeks, and I realized I completely forgot to order announcement postcards! So, I went in search of the perfect ones. We decided we’d only send some to close family and friends, and mainly keep them for the baby book.
With Eli, we ordered the cheapest possible postcards as we were sending them to so many people. I tried to find who could ship the fastest, for the cheapest, and although I love our announcements, the quality was a little lacking. This time around, I wanted to make sure they looked absolutely perfect. I decided to use Basic Invite, and my favorite part is you can order customized samples. Basic Invite is one of the few websites that allows you the ability to order a printed sample of your actual annoucement so you can see exactly how it will print as well as the paper quality before you ever have to place your final order! I absolutely loved this concept, so I ordered about 6-7 samples, some custom for this announcement, and a few baby birth announcements (because I am definitely planning ahead for when we announce Baby Dowler’s birth), so we can decide what we would like to use then as well.
The online ordering and customization process was a breeze, and I loved all the color combinations (there are even over 40 envelope colors) and that I was able to see an instant preview of the final product with my customizations. Being able to see the instant preview (even if I made the most minor change) was one of the most impressive details of Basic Invite, as most companies don’t do that!
Another thing I also really love is that they have a free address collection service, which means you can share a link with friends and family and they’ll add their address. Then, basic invite addresses your envelope for you! I think one of the most annoying things when sending announcements is trying to find all your addresses again, and make sure no one moved! And it never fails…we constantly have typos in the addresses, get them returned, and then have to call our friends to double check. The address collection service takes away all of this annoyance and unnecessary time! I think this is such a genius service they offer!
I decided to use Basic Invite for our pregnancy and birth announcements, but they have so much more! So, if you’re in the market for Wedding invitations, definitely check them out. Their selection is huge, with more than 1,000 invitation sets, that include simple save the dates to wedding invitations and enclosure cards, wedding menus, wedding programs and even matching thank you cards. I seriously wish when we got married we could have used Basic Invite!
Now…just to figure out whether we will use the girl or boy announcements come October…..
